In support of the latest album “Flesh & Blood”, featuring the same lineup who recorded “The Purple Album” in 2015, David Coverdale is joined by Reb Beach (since 2002) and Joel Hoekstra on guitars, Michael Devin on bass, alumni Tommy Aldridge on drums, and Michele Luppi on keyboards. Always great to see Snake live, one of the legends, and a personal favorite, but it’s the same setlist every tour, aside from a couple new songs. So for this run in America its 4-5 off the new album – ‘Get Up’, ‘Gonna Be Alright’, ‘Hey You (You Make Me Rock)’, ‘Shut Up & Kiss Me’, ‘Trouble Is Your Middle Name’. All solid bluesy hard rock with a metal edge that fit in well with their history.
Coverdale, one of the greatest charismatic frontmen and voices in hard rock, is now 67, and it shows in his voice, live. His mid range is strong and clear, but when he goes for the highs, screams, and screeches its really ruff and gravely. Given David’s limits, it’s really time to play some songs from the albums always neglected, especially in America: “Trouble” (1978), “Lovehunter” (1979), “Ready an' Willing” (1980), “Come an' Get It” (1981), and “Saints & Sinners” (1982). Rockers like ‘Come On’, ‘Take Me with You’, ‘Love Hunter’, ‘Sweet Talker’, ‘Ready an' Willing’, ‘Don't Break My Heart Again’, and ‘Young Blood’ are great for his mid range and would work live.
