Pre show interview with guitarist Michael Gilbert.

1. How is the album doing?

MIKE: Doing way more than we expected, it charted, especially for a metal band. You know, we are classified as a thrash metal band, but I think with this album and A.K.s vocals we crossed over into some power metal too. Last album was great too.

2. What’s the difference between your audience here, and overseas in Europe?

MIKE: Europe are more old school about stuff, want to hear the classics, first two albums. But we were just there with Overkill and Destruction and the new songs they dug as well. We did three new songs and they knew the words. And so far here in the states the crowd response and attendance has been great. We played the states with Hammerfall last year two and that was a great tour, got some Hammerfall fans too.

3. How long are you guys touring America?

MIKE: 34 shows between America and Canada. Now on our own we playing some smaller venues than with Hammerfall, but that’s fine the fans are still coming out. Some shows better than others, but that’s ok.

4. Plans to record a show for DVD?

MIKE: Yeah, we have done a show at Wacken in Germany last year. We’d like to release that.

5. Any reissues, remasters, maybe of those late 90s/early 2000’s albums?

MIKE: We are doing some orange and splatter vinyl of the new album. Yeah, some of those albums are hard to find on ITunes and stuff, but we don’t have control of it as of now. But after so many years we get them back. I would like to do a remix/remaster of “When The Storm Comes Down”, because it’s in desperate need of it. But I don’t want to do another rerecording like we did with “No Place For Disgrace”. I’d rather do a remix remaster of an album and improve on the levels.

6. Anything else you want to tell the fans.

MIKE: July, August we are doing some festivals, September out again with Overkill and Destruction, and then hopefully more shows in America, maybe another package tour like we are doing with Overkill would be great.

With a bunch of the old school metalheads wearing plenty of classic, and underground, metal band shirts, also several in denim jackets with patches, NJ came out strong to support one of the thrash legends. On tour in support of the new album “The End of Chaos”, Flotsam and Jetsam’s lineup is still singer Eric "A.K." Knutson and guitarist Michael Gilbert at the helm, with Michael Spencer on bass, Steve Conley on guitar, and Ken Mary (Fifth Angel) on drums. Followup up to the excellent 2016 self titled album, show opener ‘Prisoner of Time’ from “End of Chaos” is Flotsam doing their thing evident how “Doomsday” classic ‘Desecrator’ follows seamlessly. ‘Seventh Seal’ into mosh pit classic ‘Hammerhead’ again shows how well the latest two albums hold up to their first two classics from 1986 and 1988. Mary’s talents for playing in the pocket while adding pizazz in a rhythm and fills on ‘Demolition Man’ ups Flotsam’s game. Riffs, twin guitar harmonies, Eric’s voice (even though he said he was having an off night), bass, drums, it was all tight. ‘Suffer the Masses’ and ‘Smoked Out’ from their 90s period slows down the tempo, while ‘I Live You Die’, ‘She Took an Axe’, and ‘Dreams of Death’ was a trio of thrashing classics from “Doomsday for the Deceiver”, and “No Place for Disgrace”, closing the night with this album’s epic title track.
