Inaugural Heavy Metal Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

By: Jack Mangan

Don't call it the Hall of Fame.

It's the Hall of Heavy Metal History, and the inaugural Induction Ceremony took place on January 18, 2017, in Anaheim, California. Masterminded by Pat Gesualdo, professional drummer, Founder of D.A.D. (Drums And Disabilities), CEO of the HoHMH, and all-around good person, the Hall primarily exists to pay homage to noteworthies of Heavy music who may get overlooked and disrespected by other, higher profile halls of fame (ahem). The kickoff gala event was an incredible, unforgettable experience, hosted by legendary Metal DJ and Jersey Guy, Eddie Trunk; part prestigious assembly of Metal legends of all levels of fame, part glorious first-time mess, part killer concert, capped by an amazing 5-song performance by the Dio Disciples, with Diamond Lane opening.

The full list of the 2017 inductees:
Ronnie James Dio

Lemmy Kilmeister
Randy Rhoads
Scorpions
Vinny Appice
Rudy Sarzo
Frankie Banali
Quiet Riot
Don Airey
Ross the Boss
Metal Blade Records
Zildjian Cymbals
The Rainbow Bar and Grill

The awards ceremony ran a bit long, as these things tend to do, but with Eddie Trunk at the helm, it was overflowing with love, admiration, and emotion - - especially when reminiscing for lost friends and brothers. There was not a dry eye in the house when Rudy Sarzo got choked up, standing with Frankie Banali to accept Quiet Riot's surprise award, recalling his despair at the loss of Randy. For all of the star power in the room, and the gregarious reputations of Metal bands, this night's honorees displayed a level humility and grace rarely achieved at other showbiz awards shows. And for what it's worth, the follicle display was especially impressive, given the median age of the attendees and inductees.

The foundation has been laid. Look for this event to grow in prestige and popularity in the years to come. Metal Asylum.net's own Jack Mangan was on-hand for the event. Check back in at Metal Asylum soon for indepth coverage of his experience from the Expo Floor.
