Heavenly – Dust To Dust

Label: Sanctuary/Noise
Format: CD
Released: 2004
Reviewed By: Rich Catino

Heavenly’s name is exactly what you would expect, especially from this European band from France. They embody all the elements that the genre gets readily bashed for, fast rhythms, very soft, high vocals sounding rather feminine and very melodic guitars. If you like Freedom Call and Angra these guys are right up you alley. What they do they do it well and have made a decent name for themselves.

The disc is divided into three Chapters with a heavier alloy heard on “Lust For Life” which is fast, crunchy, has some decent tempo changes and is a good dynamic amongst the light vocals. Good chorus also.

“Victory” is sooo Angra, man this guy sounds just like their former singer Andre Matos though he at times adds some grit to his delivery. I am hearing a lot of Rhapsody in this chorus too.

I am not sure what to do with Heavenly, just when I thought they were too fluffy for me they throw me off with a tempo change and harder riffs. So overall they are rather generic I guess, but do have some good qualities to them which cause me to continue to listen. I would not rank them with the bigger names in this genre because they are little light in the ass.
