Crionics – Armageddon’s Revolution

Label: Candlelight Records
Format: CD
Released: 2005
Reviewed By: Rich Catino

Crionics (try to figure out that logo) take a page right out of the Dimmu Borgir handbook, minus the clean vocals. Tracks like ‘Arrival of Non Parallel Aeons’ and ‘Final Inversion’ could have easily come off of Dimmu’s "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" especially in the sound of Crionic’s keyboards. Hey…as they say imitation is the highest form of flattery so in this case fans of Dimmu Borgir’s brand of Black Metal will surely enjoy Crionic’s work. With the mild amounts of melody created by changes in the tempo, guitar leads and the use of keyboards (‘Freezing Fields of Infinity’), Crionic’s music is constructed in darkness without losing a sense of direction. Songs are arranged in a way that maintains the standard elements of Black Metal without becoming too repetitive.

As there are many in this genre, Crionics are one of the few I have heard that stand out for me. I find their ear for melody and separation of instrumentation allows each song to really deliver it’s occult intentions. Haunting and creepy, some good stuff. I can definitely picture Crionics as the house band in a haunted attraction for the Halloween season.
