Manngard - Circling Buzzards

Label: Candlelight Records
Format: CD
Released: 2006
Reviewed By: Kevin Alba

Manngard is a newer band from Norway and ‘Circling Buzzards’ is their debut album. Upon hearing the opening track ‘Wreathed in Rot’ I asked myself… "What is this mess?" It sounds as if they are trying to sound like a cross between Sodom and Slayer but are just failing miserably. The vocals are yelled and going way too fast to even try to dissect what is going on and the music is just terrible. The same applies to the second track ‘Safe with Me’. ‘Gravgrang’ has a more extreme vocal applied and the music is in the vein of Obituary, nothing new here, next please. ‘Tomb of God’ features punk vocals at some points, yelled vocals at others and Dillinger Escape sounding music. At this point I am just fed up.

This album has already gone in two million different directions and nothing has stood out or sounded remotely good. Vocalist Olav Iversen should just quit this nonsense and put more focus on his other band Sahg who has major potential and just supported Celtic Frost on their North American tour. Quickly checking out the rest of the songs I gave myself a headache and wasted more time. Avoid this like the plague.
