Dominance - Resurrected

Label: Divebomb

The division of Tribunal Records dedicated to historical preservation, in terms of re-issues or finally issuing long lost (never released) recordings from long since deceased acts, offers Philadelphia’s Dominance. While the moniker has been utilized repeatedly throughout the world, this late 80s/early 90s outfit was formed from the remnants of Anvil Bitch. Those thrashers had one album, "Rise To Offend", via New Renaissance (wasn’t everyone one and done with that label?).

For many, including Tribunal/Divebomb’s head, Dominance is remembered for infusing (oft-famous) pre-recorded sound bites/samples into their East Coast thrash (think early OverKill, down to the Blitz influenced vocals. See ‘This Is Only A Test’). It’s either innovative, or annoying, depending upon your perspective (attention span). In addition to nine old-school anthems (plus an updated rendition of the title cut), there’s also a vintage ’89 full-length concert video (eight additional songs, although ‘Obsession Unleashed’ and ‘The Desolate One’ are the lone non-repeated tracks).

For a band that never ‘made it,’ this is an elaborate package: including bio, lyrics and extensive up-to-date Q&A interview. The acoustic begun ‘Father Paranoia’ is wise beyond their years. ‘Dreams Of Supremacy’ is played pretty straight forward and all the better for it. Shame there wasn’t more info forthcoming regarding the impetus for lyrics, as some of the catalysts are surely long forgotten social commentaries. That’s the only negative in an otherwise excellent return to yesteryear.
