The Los Angeles tapes previously reported to be part of the final running order were unusable after a hard disk crash. The 22 tracks last almost 98 minutes, with only ‘Thrash Till Death’ repeated, as the second offering is part of a medley, utilizing a trio of Destruction drummers, from Wacken. Early online posts have made much of the “you-are-there” feel of the production, a sense of urgency definitely lives within these tunes, heightened by Schmier’s off the cuff (unrehearsed) banter with the crowd (especially in Tokyo, No more sake!).
Technically the third live Destruction CD (although “Alive Devastation” was released as an audio disc solely in Japan), the song selection is the most complete career retrospective. It covers the time right up to and including “D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N.”, even contains Schmier singing ‘Cracked Brain’ from the album of the same name, which was released after he’d flown the coop, to form Headhunter.
All metalheads should BUY the disc, just to put a few shekels in the pockets of two of the genres’ icons, who live it like they talk it! Thrash ‘til death, my Jager-bomb drinking buddy.
