Musically, this debut (on a Greek label, no less) is pure 80s Sunset strip party raunch & rock, lyrics and attitude closer to Poison or Vain (quite a bit of Davy Vain in the vocals). At least the European bump & grind parlors with have an up-to-date soundtrack with which to undress. You can almost envision the spots for twirling drumsticks, spinning guitar or jump kicks within each upbeat number. There can’t be more than 12 words in the entirety of ‘Rock Me’, two-thirds of them the titular phrase. ‘Do Or Die’ is something the originals couldn’t have concocted, due to the brief orchestrated/keyboard intro. While many of the lyrics reference (obviously their hero’s albums/songs, like ‘Rip & Tear’, ‘Dr. Love’, etc.) the guitars on ‘Scream It Hard’ progress beyond the rudimentary riffing stage. ‘Wild At Heart’ is the story every guy can relate to, next-door neighbor infatuation that goes nowhere. ‘Be My Tonight’ is a similar minded plea for female action, backing vocals approaching Sweet highs. The closing ‘Love In A Needle’ is the grittiest inclusion, complete with screamed vocals.
As someone who lived through the initial wave and knows the history, but never listens to this sort of music on my own (only at parties/bars, festivals or someone else’s choice), it’s fun as a one-time diversion.
