Dark Funeral - Angelus Exuro Pro Eternus

Label: Regain
Format: CD download
Released: 2009
Reviewed By: Mark Gromen
Rating: 6/10

Screams and hellish guttural bellows atop speedy black metal: Hell-o, from Dark Funeral! During ‘The Birth Of The Vampiir’ (sic), the long running Swedes (15 years, but no studio efforts since ’05 "Attera Totus Sanctus") show slight signs of subtlety, as does the beginning of ‘In My Dreams’. ‘Stigmata’ begins with chanting of the titular phrase, jumping right into the fray thereafter. Really, this long into their career, you don’t expect a conversion or anything do you?

‘Demons Of Five’ possesses an amazing vocal display by Emperor Magus Calig, the sustained shrieks nearly matching the suddenly high-pitched swirl of guitars.

The first edition will be a two disc Limited Edition [containing 1 CD+ 1 Live DVD]. God, these guys love to film themselves, what with the last two releases being multi-concert affairs. This live DVD will offer approx. 55 minutes of new, previously unreleased material. A professional, six-camera shoot of the band’s 15th anniversary show, which has, according to the label, "been commended as a ‘firestorm’ during the ’08 P&L Festival in Sweden and can’t be missed!" The album will also include alternate versions (soft & hardcore) of their brand new video for ‘My Funeral’.
