Dommin – My Heart, Your Hands

Label: Roadrunner Records
Format: CD
Released: 2009

“My Heart, Your Hands” is the first release with Roadrunner Records from this LA-based band headed by Kristofer Dommin (singer, guitarist, and main songwriter). The bands debut album, titled "Mend Your Misery", was self-produced and released in 2006.

The four band member’s influences include Type O Negative, Depeche Mode, Rammstein, Danzig and Dean Martin.  The Type O Negative influence is very evident in the musical style, but sadly I do not pick up on the Rammstein at all. However, it didn’t take long to pick up on the Danzig and Dean Martin heard in Kristofer’s vocals.

The track 'My Heart, Your Hands' was released as a single and a video.  Dripping with Type O Negative influence, it has a solid melody and is one of the better songs on the album. Several tracks were somewhat enjoyable as they featured smooth vocals and some rare harmonies. 'Dark Holiday' was notable in that the verses were done in a swing style while the chorus was rock. A few moments of excitement were had at the start of 'Closure', which began with heavy, strong guitars, but too soon reverted back to the radio-friendly rock style that the entire album exhibits.

Nothing fresh and exciting to be found with Dommin and this release. The songs have an 80’s feel to them that is both formulaic and radio-friendly. I found the heavy use of keyboards in the same uncreative manner throughout to be monotonous. While the production of the album is good and the group certainly has musical talent, I found it lacking in style and interest.
