Cannibal Corpse – Evisceration Plague

Label: Metal Blade

After twenty years more of the same from the death metal pioneers.  So with that, if you’re a fan then this is no letdown.  Don’t yell at me…I recognize these guys are legends for what they created but shouldn’t a band, somewhat, evolve over their career even given this style?   Many do, take for example Carcass, Death, and Opeth.  Then again…Death Metal is a tough genre because immediately the artist can remain in the underground easily putting themselves into a bloody box given a trademark style and sound (which is what occurred with the Corpse).

Cannibal Corpse are great at what they do, yes, especially in recent years.  Their last album “Kill” was strong, well produced tight death metal and “Evisceration” is no different sonic or stylistically.   I’m just looking for some kind of variety after eleven studio albums but that doesn’t look like it will ever happen because this is uncompromisingly brutal.

On that note, for what it is ‘To Decompose’ is champion.  Furious, grinding and deathly groovy, with full on complex playing.   The only variety in Cannibal’s world comes from the slower but no less crushing tempo to a song like the title track which does incorporate a little lead guitar work aside from the solo (I guess that would be the variety for them).
