Black Label Society – Skullage

Anyone who knows me can attest to the fact that I live, eat and breathe BLS.  So when the opportunity arose to review this compilation I was ecstatic!! Unfortunately, looking at the tracklisting was disappointing.

The cd portion of “Skullage” is just a random collection of 16 songs and not really “greatest hits” if that’s what your expecting. ‘Slightly Amped’ is a live recording, three others are previously unreleased acoustic versions of ‘Blessed Hellride’, ‘Spoke In The Wheel’, and ‘Stillborn’. On that note, several years ago BLS put out a greatest hits cd called ‘King of Damnation’ which had a better assortment of songs from throughout the years.

The DVD on “Skullage” was nothing more than video's that you can see on Youtube or the live versions you already have from the two already released DVD sets [“Doom Troopin” and “Boozed, Broozed and Broken-Boned”].

The only thing new the “Skullage” set offers is a segment called Welcome To The Compound’ showing Zakk at home, joking around, and talking about the inception of a lot of his songs. Very cool, but was it necessary? I hope this isn't another music great trying to take more money from their loyal fans!!

For anyone thinking about dropping $25 hold on to your money and wait for a new BLS cd which is due out late this year. Are the songs on here good? Absolutely!  Are the videos cool, you know it! But a necessity to have? I don't think so!
