Perhaps best known to the later generation of Americans as the band ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted joined (and apparently is still involved, although original four-stringer Blacky/Jean-Yves Theriault will perform summer festival dates with the Canadians), “Infini” marks the final tracks late guitarist Denis D’Amour recorded on his laptop, which the remainder VoiVod worked around to craft these 13 tunes. Opener ‘God Phones’ has a bit of Motorhead within its grooves, as does the concluding, almost atonal, bass driven ‘Volcano’.

In between, it’s the usual, completely unusual. ‘Earthache’ features two divergent melodies atop on another, quite a dissonant listen (nothing new within the oft staccato VoiVod catalog, which also contains forced punks and oddly phrased English). A punky ‘Global Warning’ leads into the haunting keyboard introduced ‘A Room With A VU’. More alternative than metal (but that’s been the case for the last two decades), nothing’s out of the realm of possibility for the Vois, which is what their fans expect/love. ‘Krap Radio’ bounces on another punk vibe, speedier than most of its surroundings. Krap radio. Is it all you want to hear? One word says it all.” A slow, spacey ‘In Orbit’ gradually picks up intensity, to a repetitive ‘Home Sweet Home’ vocal. ‘Morpheus’ follows a similar pattern, Snake/Denis Belanger ultimately shouting, while ‘Deathpoof’ is built around the most convention melody.
