Always had a soft spot for these Swedes, but seriously, is there a longer running outfit with less fanfare? Shame, as the melodic brutality of their black metal approach should have caught on, but theirs is not a moniker bantered about, even by true kvltists. Although it took until ’03 for a domestic release (“Bloodhymns”, once off Black Mark), these eight tracks (although the concluding titular piece is subdivided into an unholy trinity) mark full-length #6, plus Eps and compilation appearances, since ’93.

‘Wings Of Death’ begins differently than the rest, subdued, restrained and almost haunting solo guitar, gradually building to the rifferama exhibited throughout the platter. Listen to the tuneful shredding on ‘Celebration Of The Goat’ and ‘For Those Who Stayed Satanic’ (great title!). After an acoustic intro (‘The Summoning”), ‘Triumph Of The Horned’ recalls moments of countrymen Unleashed, before the instrumental ‘…And Jesus Wept’ concludes the disc with wind sound effect, acoustic guitar and the march of military snare.
