Painside - Dark World Burden

Upstart Swedish label signed this Brazilian outfit, perhaps in part due to the guestlist: Chris Boltendahl (Grave Digger), Gus Monsanto (Revolution Renaissance, ex-Adagio) and Renato Tribuzy, who also mixed and produced the debut. Then again, might be the dual layered, Bruce Dickinson (circa "The Chemical Wedding") vocals of Guilherme Sevens.

Musically, this is the lively, traditional metal that South Americans do so well, ranking only (slightly) behind their German and Swedish masters. A bit of staccato, modern leaning in the guitar tones (‘Sand Messiah’, sort of Priest/Painkiller vibe), but never forsaking classical metal structures, first single ‘Deviant’ is built around gritty guitar and that Air Raid influenced throat. By contract ‘This Dark World’ begins acoustically and features Monsanto (nearly feminine highs!) as the track builds intensity and speed. The concluding ‘Redeemers In Blood’ adds Boltendahl’s unique voice to the mix.

A blind surprise, better than many a "known" entity’s recent release.
