Spring is almost upon us as I look outside my window and the snow slowly melts away. For those that are sad to see winter go, "Nous Reviendrons Immortels", the icy cold debut album by Aldaaron, is the perfect cure for that frozen tundra withdrawal.

Aldaaron play melodic wintery Pagan Black Metal and do it well, taking you on a journey across the snow-covered summits of the French Alps and into the deep dark forests of natures wonders. Opener, 'The Intro', pulls the listener into their realm with an epic passage based in keys brought on by ripping tremelo picking, sample of roaring flames, thunder and lightning, followed by spoken vocals from frontman Ioldar. 'Seigneur De L'hiver' follows with raw slipping into atmospheric like riffs, Ioldar's high pitched growls, and massive blast beats from drummer Morkk. At the 3:36 mark they incorporate a beautiful acoustic interlude into the chorus which is just a wonder to hear and huge highlight to this album. After another instrumental track, which is just as breathtaking as the intro, we are treated to 'Nirnaeth Arnoediad Part 1' which goes from a mid-paced pagan like theme to major blast beats and great riffs that are designed to make the head move. As 'Part 2' kicks in, the Immortal like soothing guitar passage with the calming keys in the background are just as pleasant a sound as the rest of the album.

All in all this 8 track debut was a supreme unholy blessing to hear and anytime I want to feel a cold chill, and be transported to a wintery realm all I have to do is play this. The gods of the North are pleased.
