The post-Gorgoroth outfit for King and since Gaahl "retired" he’s recruited fellow Norge frontman Shagrath (Dimmu Borgir) alongside guitarist Ice Dale I/Audrey Horne), drummer Frost (Satyricon and too many others to name) and 1349’s Teloch. Sounds like a rawer Dimmu, with the opening ‘Devil’s Harlot’ featuring nearly clean, spoken word section. Follow-up ‘Post-Modern Sadist’ has a higher production value, creaking timbers, female voice and sound effects before it launches into a mid-tempo rollick.

A sense of melody is inherent within the hellish din. Speaking of pre-recorded bits, howling wolves greet ‘Perpetual Night’. The most vicious offering is ‘Acts Of Sin’ dissonant and misanthropic throughout. The exception, rather than the rule for these eight tracks which barely break 40 minutes, total. The concluding ‘Norge Hill’ opens with some bizarre symphonic squeaks, before returning to expected fare, which is a microcosm of the album: a few small odd moments, but generally what one wants to hear from the participants.
