Canada’s proto-metal 70s hard rockers sort of lost the plot by the mid-80s, chasing non-existent MTV glory in the States. Known for duel stratospheric vocalists (drummer Gil Moore and guitarist Rik Emmett), blinding light shows, dynamic musical changes, double neck guitars and a virtual template for what became a decade of power ballads (‘Lay It On The Line’, ‘Hold On’, ‘Magic Power’, etc.), Triumph were ahead of the times. Thankfully, this updated collection sticks mostly with the big early tunes. In addition to the music (an unreleased, and rather pointless, version of Nazareth’s ‘Love Hurts’ is amongst the fortnight long running order) there’s also an eleven track DVD of promo vids, live footage and a trio of previously unavailable videos, within the 6-panel digi-pak that also includes liner notes and vintage photos.

Perfect timing, the soundtrack for a summer, convertible top down race to the shore! A great collection of their nitro fuelled rockers, devoid of ballads and a fun way for a new generation to investigate, without the sappy (and sometimes dated) filler of yesteryear. OK, apart from ‘Just One Night’.
