The Sweden Rock crowd is singing along to ‘Dark Are The Veils Of Death’ after about one minute, even as Lowe’s vocals are a little rough (not his best performance, but this is live and unadulterated). Neither that, nor a ‘Samarithan’ follow-up would be considered definitive festival pleasers (speaking volumes to the band’s status and the sophistication of the homegrown audience). As for the newer material, nice guitar solo in ‘If I Ever Die’ and aside from a premature bell tolling to introduce an almost a cappella (in front of tens of thousands?) ‘Hammer Of Doom’, it ends in six-string flurry. Lowe truly shines on the multi-dimensional dynamics of ‘At The Gallows End’. Unaccompanied to start ‘A Sorcerer’s Pledge’, an off-key fan can be heard almost as clearly as Lowe! Latter, the crowd adds the ‘whoa’ section without prodding. Hopefully, they’ll all beat a path to their local music store as well.
