With an extraterrestrial using an uprooted CN Tower as an air guitar, there’s little doubt what this Toronto foursome (with female drummer) are up to: old school, riff-ripping metal. Part of the traditional metal movement (like countrymen Cauldron), Skull Fist offer five tracks on this introductory Ep that name check the likes of Riot, Jag Panzer and Tokyo Blade, as well as European legends.

A little on the raw side (undoubtedly due to the lack of money behind the production), this definitely has an early 80s feel, down to the trilling male vocals. What else would you expect from a disc concluding with a track entitled ‘No False Metal’? The acoustic begun ‘Blackout’ has a slower, chugging pace, although it ends in a fade-out guitar solo. If you like falsetto and hammer-on guitar playing, this is a record for you. Fun!
