Dawnless - While Hope Remains

For a long time now, metalheads have been clamoring for a new Savatage record. Some (like myself) won’t be satisfied with a return to the "Edge Of Thorns" or "Handful Of Rain" days, we want the aggressive, underground Gods! OK, maybe not "Fight For The Rock"… This Swiss outfit possesses more than a passing nod to the ‘Tage, even though the odd, blackened/death voice pops up occasionally (yet, Jon Oliva had a sinister side, at least early in the Floridians’ career). Sporting similar dynamic elements (little too much keyboard though): orchestrated, high/low vocals (‘Shadow And Pain’), sporadic piano (‘Beyond Words’) and plenty of accentuated guitar, including the closing ‘Towards Hope’ instrumental, Dawnless have certainly hit on the right melodic/aggressive balance.

Good stuff and one to watch.
