Great cover art! Following a Sergio Leone inspired cowboy intro, the band launch into a guitar tirade, only to suddenly shift into a 50s doo-whap (acoustic guitar and piano), then into something else (‘Goodbye My Love’). If the moniker Spellbound Dazzle leaves any doubt, these Germans are chaotic and quixotic. Fans of Faith No More would do well to investigate further. Like their mentors, piano and synth are featured prominently, although the underpinning of the nine tracks (plus untitled intro/outro) is staccato, modern rock, but never uninterrupted. Several songs feature more than one vocalist. At times, “SBD” (Spellbound Dazzle) borders on rap-metal, even with a bit of scratching(!), but finishes with the heaviest segment to that point. ‘So Far’ utilizes accordion, as does the ethnic sounding ‘Ruska’. ‘Monster’ has a definite nu-metal crunch, while ‘My Room’ goes completely in the opposite direction, an acoustic ballad punctuated by piano. ‘Spaceman’ almost has a stoner vibe to it.
