Dawn of Ashes – Genocide Chapters

There are a lot of bands now playing this style of blackened death metal, or vice versa, and many, many, sound the same. What’s interesting about Dawn of Ashes and kind of sets them apart is the vocals (aside from the good production) which have some (blood curdling) personality , and leap forth from the dramatic music.

Behemoth, Immolation, Emperor, Deicide, and Dimmu Borgir in the mild orchestrations, I hear em all and they join for a demonic amalgamation of sound(s). But like I said, its the vocals that caught my ear because they are wicked, deathly, with added attitude and emphasis on certain words and/or phrases. Example; the voices that close out ‘Nyarlathotep’s Children of the Void’, or ‘Transformation Within Fictional Mutation’ (which also has a graphic video online), and the 1:53 sec (which I wish was longer) horror movie intro ‘Reanimation Of The Dark Ages’ properly sets up ‘London’s Anthem For The Pleasure of Mutilation’ (where at times the vocals sound a lot like Angela’s from Arch Enemy). Gothic tinged keyboards are fitting for ‘Seething The Flesh In The River Of Phlegethon’. And what is it with these long embellished (maybe exaggerated?) song titles?

Quality stuff.
