Ok...why didn’t somebody tell me that Mercyful Fate’s son was named Portrait? Hahaha, and I mean that as a compliment. Portrait sound like they naturally capture many of Fate’s composition aspects, even right down to the voice which at times does have certain Kingisms to the inflections in both the high (not quite falsetto) and low notes. I mean if ‘Beast Of Fire’ is not reminiscent of "Melissa" or "Don’t Break The Oath", then I don’t know what is. And check out those haunting vocals and tasty leads in ‘Infinite Descension’. Excellent!

‘Bloodbath’ is just bursting with energy and again…hahaha, those guitar leads are just frightfully Shermann/Denner influenced. ‘Darkness Forever’ moves along at a steady pace but I think the voice works better without hitting those higher notes too often in ‘The Nightcomers’ where the riffing is influenced a bit by black metal. For headbanger ‘The Passion’, it’s one of the rare moments where Portrait step out of Mercyful Fate’s shadow. Regardless, it’s all still good and nice to hear this sound and style again in a new band.
