Candlemass/Krux (ex-Therion/ex-Malmsteen) singer Mats Leven is the mainman behind a fictional band portrayed in the Swedish film Mamma’s Pojkar (to be released internationally under the title Metal Brothers). While the band is never actually seen in the film, response has been such that members of Treat, Hammerfall and Therion were drafted to perform a few numbers at December’s cinematic debut and there’s even discussion about possible live dates.

So what do the ten, rather short (32 minutes) tracks sound like? Sort of a metal compilation album, jumping between influences, like “Painkiller” era Judas Priest (pre-release Ep single ‘Ride The Vapor’ and ‘Hellfire’), Grave Digger (‘Piece By Piece’), 80s Alice Cooper (title track, and ‘Golem’s Alive’) and more mid-tempo/mainstream acts, including an orchestrated acoustic ‘Betrayed’ ballad. Interested to see the film and hopefully Netflix will secure a copy of this, once available on disc.
