Eighth studio album by Norwegian singer Jorn Lande (who’s also know for his work with Ark, Masterplan, Allen/Lande, and Avantasia) and his solo band Jorn. For those unfamiliar (mostly the United States, shame on you, but I’m not surprised) with the guys voice and music take a Ronnie James Dio mixed with David Coverdale and the respective singer’s musical catalogue and that’s what you‘re getting from Jorn. Irony or not, given Jorn’s tone and choice in musical style he’s good at what he does and nicely captures the purity of classic 80s hard rock and heavy metal into today without sounding dated.

‘Overload’, the album’s second video track, ‘Cancer Demon’, and the title track very indicative of Jorn’s overall style, straight ahead hard rock/metal., and a nice one, two, three punch top kick off the album. ‘Window Maker’ picks up the pacing in the drums with ‘Make Your Engine Scream’ incorporating some twin guitar leads and a Thin Lizzy feel at times heard in Jorn’s music. More of an American hard rock guitar riff (also ‘Rev On’) and lead is used for ‘Carry The Black’, add some weird other worldly sound effects gives the track a different texture and a Scifi feel. Closing the album, ‘The Man Who Was King’ (such a Dio, Rainbow title) begins with acoustic guitars and keyboards and has very much heavy Dio “Magica” delivery.

Good stuff as always, great soaring vocals, riffs, and rhythm section. Will you Americans every wake up to these great European artists who have been carry out the works of the forefathers for all these years since the late 90s?
