Featuring 3/5 of the Twisted Tower Dire line-up (singer Johnny Aune , bassist Jim Hunter and guitarist Scott Waldrop) as well as Daylight Dies six-stringer Charlie Shackelford and Viper/ex-Widow drummer Peter Lemieux, the newly christened Walpyrgus brings forth a four-song demo, that includes a cover of Mercyful Fate's ‘Doomed By The Living Dead’. Originally issued earlier this year on cassette (Yes, you read that correctly!), it's now available as a CD/7” vinyl combo pack. None too surprisingly, with Aune's voice and Waldrop's axe, the music recalls recent Dire output: catchy, traditional metal.

Along the lines of TTD’s “Make It Dark's” ‘Snow Leopard’, albeit less frenetic, ‘Cold Cold Ground’ might even bend a little towards a more commercial polish. By contrast, ‘The Sisters’ is a short, mid-tempo meander, with plenty of dual guitar interplay. A drum fill and ‘We Are The Wolves’ comes charging out of the speakers, the closest in meter and intensity to their day jobs. The cover (which is only available on the tape format!) is fairly straight forward, with multiple voices. Hopefully a full length is in the not too distant future.
