House Of Lords – Indestructible

Ok, if House Of Lords aren’t indestructible, then none of the 80s melodic hard rock/metal bands are. Having recovered from the decades fallout and scrutiny, lone original member, James Christian, regrouping Lords with new members in 2005, and having released not one, or two, but by now five albums with great new music, House Of Lords are to be respected, for their past and present. With a solid lineup for the past ten years, guitarist Jimi Bell, Chris McCarvill on bass guitars, and drummer BJ Zampa, “Indestructible” represents everything the band represents in the new millennium while embracing all their stylistic qualities which made them a success in the 80s/early 90s.

Opening track, ‘Go To Hell’, is a guitar driven rocker with riffs, a complimenting keyboard, and vocal melody line that will send your fist in the air and head bobbing. Big 80s drums signal the title track and keeps the guitars in the foreground and Jimi does his thing for a reflective solo. James’ vocal lines and chorus with the keyboards carry over the classic Lords elements (see especially ‘Pillar Of Salt’ for this) from their first three albums. A little edge and driving drum beat makes ‘100 mph’ a hard hitter, a side newer Lords balances with the more melodic, keyboard based songs. Well done as always. Speaking of, Jimi incorporates a little effect on the guitar (has on previous albums) to start ‘Die To Tell’. Their 80s roots nicely returns again for the keyboard based ‘Call My Bluff’ which lets the riffs dropout for the verses keeping focus on vocals and pleasant keyboards. Again, flawless execution, embracing the past without trying to rewrite the past. ‘Another Dawn’ is a good straight forward rocker. ‘‘Eye Of Storm’ reminds of something that could have fit on “Sahara”.

House Of Lords have not disappointed me with an album of new music since their reactivation. Go check out my three favorites; “World Upside Down”, “Come to My Kingdom”, “Cartesian Dreams”. “Indestructible” is sure to be in my Top 10 Albums Of The Year.
