Devildriver - Trust No One

Around since 2003, from Santa Barbara, Cali, “Trust No One” their seventh album in…Devildriver continue to be part of the New Wave of American Extreme Metal. Similarly to bands like Machine Head, Lamb of God, Chimaira, Devildriver follow that formula with uncompromising riffs, grooves and vocals. Melody is sprinkled in from time to time in the leads, rhythmic changes, and an influence from the Swedish melodic death metal scene, ala In Flames – see opening two tracks ‘Testimony Of Truth’ and ‘Bad Deeds’. ‘My Night Shy’ starts off quiet, with a mild build before pounding the pavement at a mid pace (with some death metal after the 3 min mark)and excruciating vocal to emphasize the verses and chorus. As the same with ‘Above It All’ and the build-up. ‘Daybreak’ could very well be a Lamb of God song, while the title track is projected with the most aggression so far.

Ten tracks that are as hardcore as you’d want them, with attitude, a fist to the face from the American sound…If this if your thing. It’s too much yelling and screaming, one dimensional arrangements for my taste.
