Arcadian Child - Superfonica

Rating: 9/10

This is mellow gold. Chilled out, Psychedelic Jam Metal with a strong, Bluesy Classic Rock vibe, recalling Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, classic Aerosmith, Cream, the mellower side of Soundgarden, etc. “Brothers” is one of the best, most enchanting, most haunting songs of the year, and will make many return appearances in daily playlists. “She Flows” is another glorious Alt Rock earworm, in the modern style of Band of Horses or Department of Eagles. “Painting” and opening song, “Bain Marie,” are also excellent.

The guitar work and songwriting hearken back to a simpler, yet more grandiose, more serious era of Rock n’ Roll, with aspirations of ascendance and otherworldly, ethereal godhood. “Superfonica” is the second album from Arcadian Child, but their skills are clearly well-honed; the record shows assurance and confidence usually reserved for seasoned veterans. The mix is also designed for headphones, so put ‘em on your head and dig these vibes. No flowers in your headset necessary.
