You remember that time your friend or significant other dragged you out to see their co-worker's band at the dive bar across town? You really didn't want to go, but when you got there, you were surprised at how good the band was? Never mind the shots you agreed to drink or the weird people you ended up talking to or that 4a.m. tattoo you got; we're talking about the great music you heard that night. Becaue that's the experience of listening to the debut Lightning Born album. Mike Dean of Corrosion of Conformity lends the band some veteran star power. It's easy to believe that htis band is a side project from a CoC member, with their pure Blues bar band sound, draped in the influences of Lynryd Skynrd, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Mountain, Heart, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Free, Peter Frampton, and you get the point.

Singer Brenna Leath (of The Hello No) is a bit of Lita Ford, Aretha Franklin, Robert Plant, and a lot of Anne Wilson. A lot of Anne Wilson.
The sound lends itself good, sudsy times. Simple, straightforward, enjoyable. I half-expected "Wildifre" to be a cover of the 70s Soft Rock hit, but its thier own, and one of the better on the album, along with "Godless."
