Crashdiet – Rust

Fifth album from these throwback Swedish glam rockers, with new singer, Gabriel Keyes, Crashdiet bring back the dirtier guitars and vocals from the late 80s/early 90s. First single, ‘Reptile’, set a great tone for what the album was to be, is a little Skid Row “Slave to the Grind” meets Spread Eagle. Sleazy and gritty in the attitude and sound, the title track opens the album in fine early L.A. Guns, GnR, Shotugun Messiah edgy fashion. ‘Into The Wild’ churns around guitars and drums prior to a punchy rhythm. ‘In The Maze’ slows down pulling back on the aggression, Gabriel’s voice more melodic, ‘We Are Legion’ hits back harder after with a scream signals the hook “We are the legion you despise, until the world comes crashing down”. Like the bands previously mentioned, Crashdiet’s lyrics also street level about life, love, sex, drugs, rock n roll. ‘Crazy’ has some punk spirit, an element the band sprinkles in from time to time. Nice old Ratt type riff in ‘Parasite’, last two tunes (‘Stop Weirding Me Out’,‘Filth & Flowers’) closes the album hard without losing any energy.

Another great band from the current generation keeping the spirit alive from the genre’s golden era in the 80s
