Eleine - All Shall Burn EP

Label: Black Lodge Records
Format: Download
Released: 2019
Reviewed By: Jack Mangan
Rating: 9/10

There are five tracks on the EP, four individual, with one Metal and one purely Symphonic version of “All Shall Burn.” Eleine’s voice is a marvel; her high, clear singing flies above the battlefield like a banner. She’s accompanied by a multitude of male voices. It’s a bit confusing; I’m not sure if it’s all from one man, or a few different ones.

There’s a clear Power Metal guy, a guttural, low German voice, that sounds straight out of Rammstein, and a Death Metal growl that spills over from brutal into silly - - but thankfully, this latter is rarely heard.
Both versions of the title track are excellent. I’m impressed with the songwriting; the transitions are thrilling like plot twists, and the best sections are beautiful. “Enemies” and the Symphonic version of “Hell Moon (We Shall Never Die)” (the original was on their 2018 “Until the End” LP) are also powerful. This is an excellent fun-size treat, and is hopefully leading to a delicious meal on an upcoming full-length release.
Most of the reactions I've seen to Eleine are fixated on her. . . . physical assets. . . This is not unexpected, but also a little unfortunate, because their "All Shall Burn" EP showcases some of the best Symphonic Power Metal of 2019.
