I like every song on this album. How often can you say that? The songbuilding on NITE’s debut, “Darkness Silence Mirror Flame,” is masterful; stunning dark architecture with hints of the gothic and sinister. The walls of each song are muraled with sumptuous riffs and engaging changes.

Guitarist/Vocalist Van Labrakis’s voice is a bit reminiscent of “Orgasmatron” Lemme, slightly of Mille from Kreator, except that Labrakis delivers a monotonous guttural rasp, with almost no variance of any kind - - not in inflection, tone, or intensity. . . . This sameness of voice from track-to-track is the one negative here, but the songs and the rest of the components are strong enough to carry the day.
In spite of the harsh vocals, the overall Metal Heaviness of the material is middle-of-the-road. Never soft - - not even on the lighter opening half to “Bright.” NITE’s music is New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal to the bone.
Highlights: “The Way,” “Lucifer,” “Ezelia,” “Acolytes.”
