A Sci-Fi Cyberpunk Power-Prog Metal triumph!
“Danse de Noir” opens with the 38-second intro skit, “The Voight Kampff Situation,” an obvious nod to the classic Cyberpunk film, “Blade Runner,: which then leads to the title track. Wonderful riff, captivating lyrics, enigmatic tolling bell; this is where you’ll stop to pay attention. Channeling Type O Negative, classic Life of Agony, Rotting Christ, Iron Maiden, W.A.S.P., Dio, Hades, Pretty Maids, Queensryche, and classic NWOBHM, Lord Vigo’s “Danse de Noir” is a respectable offering for Metal fans. Bonus, it’s also a concept album that makes the attentive listener want to re-listen to really track the story.

Vinz Clortho is the drummer and singer, and his wailing voice is akin to Alan Tecchio’s; some will hate, some will love. To me, Clortho’s vocals are sometimes a distraction, but only rarely a detraction - - and at the best times, they bring the uniqueness of character and poignance the song requires. His drum kit and rhythms are creative and multi-faceted, using interesting choices of percussion and pieces, sometimes pulling items out of Neil Peart’s toy box.
The album is a success, and the production is a strong part of that win. Lord Vigo may be a three-piece band, but the studio deserves credit as a fourth member in creating “Danse de Noir” - - if nothing else, then for that great bell sound effect and the skits.
Enjoy this one! Because all those moments will be lost like tears in rain.
