Their 2021 “White Buffalo” EP is a serious, melodically-ambitious, layered, focused amalgam of Blues, Metal, Rock n’ Roll, New Age, and World Music. The sound is enormous, atmospheric, and galactic - - not sparse and spare, like other famous duos (e.g.: The White Stripes, The Black Keys). This is more akin to Pink Floyd, Monster Magnet, Led Zeppelin, Triumph, Rush, Yes. Extra components abound - - sitars, synths and strings sounds - - filling up the space (presumably produced by the keyboards). Well-placed Eastern percussion parts make for deft, beautiful additions. Nothing feels tacked on or frivolous. The vox bring all kinds of character and Rock n’ Roll sass, evoking Dave King of Fastway, Rik Emmett of Triumph, and Jack White.
White Buffalo is only a 4-song EP, but the 13-minute “The Oracle” drives the total running time to about 28 minutes. This epic features some interesting passages throughout, but it’s the least interesting of the 4. “Inner Light” and the title track swirl around you like a whirlpool, pulling you in.
