Headline: Badass girls born in the 80s make stellar Heavy music. Their 2021 release, “Tell Your Girls It’s Alright,” hits with all of the attitude and freshness of a debut, but they’ve actually been releasing stuff since 2014. On this album, The Dead Deads serve a pizza with a Metal crust and a sauce of Punk, with a cheese of 90s Alternative, and sprinkled toppings of Pop Music.
They take chances, they don’t follow the easy recipes; every new bite, every new song is a fresh new surprise of flavors and melodies and sounds and ideas.
The opening tracks, “Sea Beast” and “Thinkers and Preyers,” are both exciting, delightful straight ahead rockers, replete with fist-raising backing vocals. Throughout the rest of the record, they continue to zig and zag, including on standout tracks, “Muder Ballad II” (co-written and co-performed by Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Stone Sour), the Showtunesy “Murder and Ballad II Reprise,” and “Deal With Me.”
It veers at times out of the Metal park, but it’s still pretty consistency hard-hitting, ballsy, edgy, and listenable. They balance abrasive and catchy.
