Yup, Satan are, have been reactivated, since 2013, "Earth Infernal" the sixth full length album. And they are not the only ones from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal having a resurgence; Diamond Head, Demon, Tygers of Pan Tang, Praying Mantis, Grim Reaper (Steve Grimmett's), Angel Witch, and Cloven Hoof too. How do they fit in with their peers, what's their contribution? Satan use the two guitars, quicker to midpace tempos, but not one of the more recognizable voices in Brian Ross who is more so monotone but pleasant. Also, unlike of course Maiden, Saxon, Grim Reaper, Praying Mantis, or even Raven, Satan don't quite have the hooks or anthems, but the vocals harmonies.

Guitar melodies begin 'Ascendancy' with that early 80 aesthetic in the guitar tone, natural drum sound and production, 'Burning Portrait' feels like old Mercyful Fate how the guitar riffs and leads work in harmony. Great riff that settles in to the verses for 'Twelve Infernal Lords', accenting leads, vocal delivery gives more and chorus all around works for excellent flow from one thing to the next. Great scream too, solid. Beautiful acoustic guitars start two and a half minute instrumental 'Mercury's Shadow' setting up percussion at the start of 'Sorrow Unspent' before the drums drive the energy and sound like could go off the rails any minute. Catchy and straight forward, melodic is 'Luciferic' and would be a good single. 'The Blood Ran Deep' bring up the energy and early 80s Maiden-ism "Killers" two guitar work. 'Earth We Bequeath' ends the album strong.
