Before we get into the album must say I wasn't sold on the first singles 'Peacemaker', or 'Rock Believer'. Or the album's title, both felt and sounded pretty generic. 'Shining Of Your Soul' is the better of the singles so far, a moody rocker that has this Caribbean riff feel and melody line, and a very 70's Scorps quiet vocal clean guitar break. But fifteen songs that's a lot, you better deliver the goods rocking hard, and the variety. So after 50 years of making albums, nineteen studio to date, is there a sting in the tail (sure pun intended)?

Welp, first song 'Gas In The Tank' is a fun Scorps rocker that reminded me of something from the "Lovedrive" to "Blackout" era. 'Roots In My Boots' (title's corny though) has more drive in the riff and Mikkey Dee on the drums, 'Knock Em Dead' got that old school Scorpions in the primary riff. By track three Matthias Jabs still brings the great solos with a touch of shred but lots of feel. Bass and the twin riffs trade off on 'Seventh Sun', kinda like 'The Zoo' or 'China White'. Track seven, 'Hot and Cold', riff and rhythm is the first song so far that really sounds out of their wheel house. Different vibe to the rocker which is good.
Half way through the album 'When I Lay My Bones To Rest' got that 50's rock n roll spirit. 'Call Of The Wild' keeps the guitars with a moody chorus. Scorpions has a lot of ballads, 'When You Know' nothing really special. 'Shoot For Your Heart', 'When Tomorrow Comes', 'Unleash The Beast three more rockers that are enjoyable, but how often will I go back to them?
Overall, good to see Scorpions inspired enough to make new music. How many of these songs though will stick with me, I don't know. Can't say anything from "Sting In The Tail" or "Return To Forever" did. With the exception of a couple songs here and there last memorable album for me was "Unbreakable" from 2004, and before that "Crazy World" in 1990.
