21st album from the German power metal legends, "Symbol of Eternity" continuing the story telling of the Crusaders and Knights Templar, and the album "Knights of the Cross" from 1998. Singer Chris Boltendahl still joined by guitarist Axel Ritt and bassist Jens Becker, with Marcus Kniep on drums. What can you expect? Well, its Grave Digger, so crunchy traditional heavy metal guitars, defined bass, big drums, sometimes backing keyboards, and other instruments like bagpipes and strings since 1996.

'The Siege of Akkon' one of their most dramatic intros, like something out of a movie, 'Battle Cry' launching right into a power metal anthem for the war with the big gang vocals on the chorus. 'Hell Is My Purgatory' steadfast with the riff following the chorus melody, while 'King of the Kings' a driving headbanger and a power metal singalong chorus. Title track at five plus minutes incorporates acoustic guitar in the verse adding dynamics and a period piece musical quality for the time period, Chris' gravely vocal smooths out some in the chorus melody.
Middle eastern sounds on intro 'Saladin' that is only 37 seconds and could have just been part of 'Nights Of Jerusalem'. I always like the catchy simple riffs on a Grave Digger album, found one here on 'Heart Of A Warrior'. Keyboards out front for 'Grace of God' where guitars drop out during the verse, quiet vocals in the chorus. Melodic guitar leads begin 'Sky of Swords', slower tempo in 'The Last Crusade'. 'Hellas Hellas' keyboard changes to a Purple/Rainbow tone, with a second voice singing in a different language.
